Poly(2‐Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate) Hydrogel‐Based Microneedles for Metformin Release

نویسندگان

چکیده

The release of metformin, a drug used in the treatment cancer and diabetes, from poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), pHEMA, hydrogel-based microneedle patches is demonstrated vitro. Tuning composition pHEMA hydrogels enables preparation robust with mechanical properties such that they would penetrate skin (insertion force single to be ≈40 N). Swelling experiments conducted at 20, 35, 60 °C show temperature-dependent degrees swelling diffusion kinetics. Drug microneedles fitted various models (e.g., zero order, first second order). Such have potential application for transdermal delivery metformin aging, cancer, etc.

Biodegradable Polymer Microneedles for Controlled-release Drug Delivery

Biopharmaceuticals, which include proteins, DNA, vaccines and other biologically related molecules, make up one of the fastest growing segments of the overall pharmaceutical market. However, there are significant delivery limitations. Specifically, oral delivery is difficult due to Poor absorption and degradation that occurs in the GI tract and liver and more sensitive drugs including proteins ...

Formulation and Evaluation of Sustained Release Matrix Tablets of Metformin Hydrochloride Using pH Dependent and pH Independent Methacrylate Polymers

Metformin hydrochloride is recommended globally as first line therapy due to its favorable profile on morbidity and mortality associated with type-2 diabetes mellitus. However, limitations of multiple dosing and risk of triggering gastrointestinal symptoms make its dose optimization difficult. Extended-release metformin matrix tablets were prepared by direct compression of drug and different pH...

Adding saxagliptin to extended-release metformin vs. uptitrating metformin dosage.

AIM To investigate whether patients taking metformin for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have improved glycaemic control without compromising tolerability by adding an agent with a complementary mechanism of action vs. uptitrating metformin. METHODS Adults with T2DM and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) between 7.0 and 10.5% receiving metformin extended release (XR) 1500 mg/day for ≥8 weeks were r...

Coated microneedles for transdermal delivery.

Coated microneedles have been shown to deliver proteins and DNA into the skin in a minimally invasive manner. However, detailed studies examining coating methods and their breadth of applicability are lacking. This study's goal was to develop a simple, versatile and controlled microneedle coating process to make uniform coatings on microneedles and establish the breadth of molecules and particl...

Microneedles for Ocular Drug Delivery

Statement of Purpose: Targeted drug delivery into the eye is a challenging task because of a variety of barriers that prevent safe and effective delivery. Topical application to the eye is hindered by low residence time resulting in poor diffusion of drug into intraocular tissues. Intravitreal injection can deliver drugs to the retina effectively but is invasive and carries risk of infection. I...
